A Merry Christmas Poem For The Age We Live In by Billy Soden

Published on

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all over our earth
Our brothers and sisters were celebrating a birth;
There were some who believed, while others did not,
It made not a difference, still presents they bought;

The kids were excited, and parents were, too
Reliving the memories of what they once knew;
But something had changed with those moms and those dads,
They grew up, they got busy, and they seemed kind of sad.

Now adults with experience, who had seen a world shatter
Addiction and suffering, and now “Black Lives Matter”
Hunger and homelessness now seemed the norm
They were jaded, confused, and in need of reform

With politics dividing as never before
What they had or had not, left them wanting for more
“Where is our hope?” they would ask to themselves.
"What happened? Have our dreams all been shelved?"

And then something happened inside of their hearts
A feeling of love that was way off the charts!
“But where did this come from? This peace and this calm?”
It was sweet, but with strength – like a well-written song

A voice from above answered clearly and bold,
“This is the story of which you’ve been told!"
"I’m the infant born King, brought here to embrace
Your family and friends, all are gifted my Grace."

“But Jesus,” they said, as they hung their head low,
“I’m not worthy, I’m broken, and I’ve ignored all you show.”
“I’ve lied and I’ve cheated, and done such bad things!”
“How can I be loved by a King of all Kings?”

With that, Jesus smiled, and bended on knee.
Looked straight in their eye, and He said unto thee.
“You are my child, my creation, my pride.”
“I died on the cross, so you don’t have to hide.”

“Be happy and healthy, share love and my word!”
“You are blessed, you are favored, and through you I am heard!”
And then just like that, the voice disappears!
But the feeling did not, and it erased all their fears.

Twas the night before Christmas, and all over the place...
Was the presence of love, and the present of Grace.

Merry Christmas everyone!
With Love, Peace, and Hope...
Billy Soden
